John McStay
Chief Executive Officer
John has over 35 years of corporate and institutional experience in property and asset management for global and local companies, and over this period has been responsible for managing significant portfolios of property assets including large capital expenditure projects. John also spent seven years with a global IT company representing the tenant.
This transactional and investment management experience, from the perspective of lessor and lessee, will assist in leading Sustainable to deliver its growth and strategic objectives. John holds a BPA from the University of Auckland.

Hamish Ellis-Jack, CFA
Chief Financial Officer
Hamish Ellis-Jack, CFA, joined Sustainable Property as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in 2023. A CFA Charterholder, Hamish brings with him a wealth of experience from working in corporate finance and investment advisory both in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Working with a range of large corporates and private clients in NZ and the UK. Hamish has advised on a range of asset classes including residential and commercial property investments. Hamish holds a BCom in Accounting and Finance from the University of Auckland and has worked with Deloitte, PwC, Spark and Foodstuffs North Island, including time in the Property Team providing investment and site analysis.

Gareth Oliver
Asset Manager
Gareth has 25 years experience within the property/facilities industry including roles with Otis Building Technologies, Multiplex, Brookfield, CBRE, Colliers and now, Sustainable. With a MFMANZ (Facilities Management Association of NZ) and a BCom, Gareth has the technical and financial acumen to set budgets, make capex plans, manage projects, perform procurement and run day to day operations. Gareth has a penchant for technology and is always adopting the ever-changing technologies for the benefit of the building owner and occupants, whilst employing value for money solutions with a sustainability focus.

Julie Coetzer
Finance & Admin Manager
Julie had 15 years corporate Treasury and finance experience before emigrating to NZ and then joining Sustainable in 2009. She is responsible for administration, all shareholder account related matters, budget processes and financial reporting for Sustainable and various Trusts. Julie remains focused on learning new skills as part of continued improvement to internal systems, compliance processes, and supporting leadership at all levels by contributing to sustain, improve and enhance the overall performance of the business. Julie holds a BCompt (Hons) Degree, NZQA equivalent of Bachelor of Business Studies with Honours and an AATQB qualification.
